Let's Keep Her Sailing!

W e recognize that you receive many requests to donate money to charitable organizations. We ask you to consider the following factors that make Project Liberty Ship worthy of your donation.

  • Project Liberty Ship is a unique organizations in that we are dedicated to preserving an historic ship as an operating museum and a living memorial to shipyard workers, merchant mariners, and Naval Armed Guard veterans.

  • Project Liberty Ship is and always has been an all-volunteer organization that has benefited from more than one million hours of volunteer labor. We pay no salaries to operate the Project. This means that 100% of your donation can be applied to preserve the ship and further our mission.

  • We have no corporate sponsors or source of government funding. Outside of our fund raising promotions, we rely on our members and friends for virtually all of our funding.

  • We have spent past donations wisely with the result that the ship and the Project have received recognition from the World Ship Trust, the Steamship Historical Society and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). In addition, the JOHN W. BROWN is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been inducted into the Maritime Hall of Fame at the American Merchant Marine Museum at Kings Point, New York.

The year 2007 was remarkably successful for the Project, marked in particular by our three-week Yankee Adventure cruise to Buzzards Bay and Boston, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine. More than 7,000 enthusiastic visitors boarded the BROWN at the three ports of call and we conducted well-subscribed Living History cruises in Portland and Boston. We are grateful for the generous help we received from our supporters in meeting fuel and food expenses for the cruise.

As always there are significant expenses involved in maintaining and operating a large, sea-going vessel. Fuel costs, for example, have increased dramatically in recent years. Cautious and responsible financial management combined with the remarkable generosity of our members and friends have always provided us with the necessary support to meet our expenses.

Thus we turn once again to those who have always helped us in the past with their generosity - members and friends of the BROWN, as well as those interested in maritime history.

Your generous support will help us to maintain our unique status as a fully operational, living, steaming memorial and museum. Please help us continue the preservation and the operation of this historic ship by making a donation. You can specify where your donation will be used, or you may make a donation with specifying its use, in which case Project Liberty Ship will apply your donation to the area of greatest need. Please use our on-line donation form.

Your donation will enable us to fulfill the motto that we have borrowed from the brave seamen of World War II:

You Bet We're Going Back to Sea!

Project Liberty Ship is designated a 501(c)(3) charitiable organization and your donation may be tax deductible.
