Captain Michael Schneider, of Annapolis, became Chairman of Project Liberty Ship in April 2002, succeeding Captain Brian Hope who had held that position for many years.

Here is a short synopsis of his career:

Mike graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1961.

He served the next 24 years on active duty with the U.S. Navy. His assignments included a variety of jobs on surface ships and submarines, including executive officer of a diesel submarine and commanding officer of a KNOX-class frigate. He also had staff jobs at sea and at the Pentagon. He retired from the Navy in 1986.

After that he was program manager and production manager in the commercial aerospace industry.

A member of the Brown for several years, he retired in April 2000 in time to take part in the first two legs of Great Lakes 2000.

He has concentrated his work in the engine room.
