Edith Ralon was born in Ohio in 1928 and lived
with her family in New Jersey and Virginia before
moving to Maryland, where she graduated from
Bladensburg High School in 1947. She worked for
an insurance company in Washington, DC, between
1947 and 1950, during which time she met and married
Carlos. The Ralons lived in Cheverly and Lusby,
Maryland, where they raised three sons, Don, Carlton
and Joel, and a daughter, Vicki, who between them
have made Edith and Carlos grandparents seven times.
The Ralons owned and operated retail music stores in
southern Maryland and opened a large Hallmark card
and gift shop, which Edith still owns and operates
with a staff of six. Both are very active in their
church, Calvary Bible Church, where Edith serves on
the mission committee and Carlos is an elder and the
church organist.
Edith joined Project Liberty Ship in 1999 in hopes of
occasionally seeing her husband, who volunteers in the
engine room. Utilizing her 30 years of experience in
retail sales, she assists in the BROWN’s store and works
in the ship's mail room. She sailed for three weeks with
the BROWN during the 2000 Great Lakes cruise and has made
most of the Living History voyages on the Chesapeake Bay.
