Jeremy Hope
3rd Mate

Jeremy started his career as a volunteer aboard the JOHN W. BROWN as a boy of just 11 years of age. He literally grew up on the ship, leaming the art of seamanship from a whole crew of "grandfathers" aboard the BROWN.

It was a natural thing for him to seek a maritime career and he was accepted at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy with the Class of 1999. His "grandparents" aboard the BROWN was sorry to see him go off to school but excited about his acceptance at Kings Point.

With his prior maritime background aboard the BROWN, Jeremy did very well at Kings Point, finishing 8th in his class and graduating Magna Cum Laude. His sea experiences as a cadet included a voyage to the Antarctic on a tanker that resupplied the U.S. McMurdo Station, a coveted position assigned to only two cadets each year.

After graduation Jeremy joined the Masters, Mates and Pilots Union and is presently sailing as Third Mate on American cargo ships and tankers. He is sharing an apartment with three of his classmates in Charleston, South Carolina.
