Captain Brian Hope has been a Chesapeake Bay Pilot since 1970, and is a self-taught artist. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in 1965 and sailed for several years as a deck officer on the Vietnam sealift, on troopships, a Victory ship and a C-1, (but alas, he says, never on a Liberty.)

His artwork hangs in museums and in many homes and offices in the Baltimore area. A number of his paintings have been reproduced in books and magazines. Captain Hope is an Artist Member of the American Society of Marine Artists.

Brian was Chairman of Project Liberty Ship for fourteen years, from 1988 until 2002.
