Dave Evans, a British Merchant Navy veteran and Project Liberty Ship volunteer, died unexpectedly in England on September 3, 2005, at the age of 74.

In 1948, sixteen year old Dave Evans of Essex, England, started his maritime career by training at the VINDICATRIX Sea School.

From 1948 to 1957, Dave sailed in the stewards department of various ships of the PORT LINE, the SHAW SAVILLE LINE and the ROYAL MAIL LINE.

After leaving the sea, he worked for a timber firm and a glass manufacturer. He then joined Sainsbury's, where he worked for the next thirty years, until his retirement in 1996.

Together with two other members of the London Branch of the Merchant Navy Association, Bert Hunt and Pete Goddard, Dave spent several summer vacations coming to Baltimore to work and to crew the JOHN W. BROWN.
