Hercules "Herk" Esibill, long time purser on the BROWN and former Secretary of Project Liberty Ship, died December 5, 2006, after several years of declining health.

Born in Millville, New Jersey,

Herk first went to sea in July 1942, at the age of 17.

Herc sailed on the following ships between 1942 and 1953:

  • SS WILLIAM WIRT (Liberty)
  • SS MARY LYON (Liberty)
  • SS ANTHONY WAYNE (Liberty)
  • SS MARK KEPPEL (Liberty)
  • SS PONCE DE LEON (Liberty)
  • SS ROBERT F HOKE (Liberty)
  • SS PEARL HARBOR (Liberty)
  • SS HUBBARTON

  • Awards:

  • Atlantic War Zone Ribbon and Medal.
  • Pacific War Zone Ribbon and Medal.
  • Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Ribbon and Medal.
  • A member of Project Liberty Ship since 1988, Herk served on the Board of Directors as Secretary for fourteen years, until retiring in 2005.
