Doug Cochran has been involved in historical interpretive work for over 20 years. He has worked as a historical volunteer and educator on programs sponsored by the U.S. National Park Service, the Virginia State Parks Department, the Navy Memorial Foundation, the Calvert Marine Museum, and the SS JOHN W. BROWN.

He is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and served actively for six years with one tour as an Engineering Watch Officer and Damage Control Assistant aboard the USCGC UNIMAK, and one tour at Coast Guard Headquarters.
