Mark has been an active member of Project Liberty Ship since 1998 and is an able seaman in the deck department. Mark, a graduate of the University of Maryland, works for the U.S. government as a project manager/technical operations officer. He holds a limited tonnage U.S. Coast Guard captain's license which he has used while employed part time in the assistance towing business. Prior to his government employment Mark was a commercial diver for six years working in the marine construction, offshore oil and shipbuilding industries; he onced helped restore the pier where the BROWN is now berthed. He has had a lifelong interest in maritime history, particularly in the design and construction of wooden ships and boats. Mark also volunteers in the boat shop of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, MD. He lives in Virginia with his wife Joyce and daughter Catherine, who likewise is an active member of Project Liberty Ship. Mark was elected to the Board of Directors of Project Liberty Ship in 2009.
